DEMONSTRATOR LYSIMETER TRAINER

This apparatus is used to determine the water retention capacity of a soil using the hydrological balance, distinguishing each of its components.

Through simulated rainfall applied to the soil, the following elements of the hydrological cycle can be identified:

• Surface runoff: Once the soil becomes saturated, surface runoff begins. It is collected externally and measured by evaluating its volume.
• Subsurface and underground flow: The infiltrated water is collected from the bottom of the container and measured according to its volume.
• Stored water in the soil: The remaining water is absorbed by the soil. This can be verified by weighing the sample before rainfall and again afterward. The difference corresponds to the volume of water stored.
