SAFETY

Constantly evolving vehicles have created the need for more car safety features than vehicles of the past. As cars become faster and more efficient, they must also become safer. Drivers are protected by more car safety features than ever, including shatter resistant glass (providing a windshield that breaks into numerous, harmless pieces in the event of an accident), seatbelts, airbags, anti-lock brakes (solving the skidding problem and also allowing the driver to maintain control of steering, while braking on slick surfaces), stability control (allowing the driver to avoid dangerous rollover accidents, by the computer helping to compensate for the amount of over steer by sending power to different wheels), lights (are essential three main types for any vehicle: break lights, turn lights and headlights), mirrors (a proper alignment of mirrors ensures high visibility and eliminates the blind spots), bumpers (perhaps the most primitive of safety features, built to with standing minor collisions and can prevent damage to the main body and engine of the car), four wheel steering (offers precise maneuvering ability while driving at a high speed, especially useful on hilly areas), pre-collision technology (modern day cars have sensors that provide impact protection when an impending collision is detected; seatbelts get tighter, airbags align and brakes become preloaded to reduce shock) and more. There are two trainers designed by De Lorenzo that can cover this field, one simulator and one demonstrator. The simulation panel allows the testing and the troubleshooting on the passive devices developed with the purpose to increase the driver and passenger’s safety inside motorcars analyzing airbags (driver, passenger, side and window), belts tension relay, fuel shut-off inertia switch and multi-function valve in the fuel tank. A fault simulator, for troubleshooting, is provided and it can be interfaced to personal computer through a CAI software. The demonstrator panel represents an airbag system construction, with real components, allowing the evaluation of a typical Supplemental Restraint System controller (SRS – the proper name for the airbag in a vehicle) with a frontal airbag, a passenger’s airbag, side airbags, tensioners and sensors of side crashers. It includes a fault simulation console to perform troubleshooting on many principle parts of the trainer. They are recommended for professional institutes, vocational schools and technical colleges.
