ENGINE OPERATION

Internal combustion engine produces mechanical power from the chemical energy contained in the fuel, because of the combustion process occurring inside the engine. Approximately 30% of the energy released in an internal combustion engine is converted into work and the remaining energy is lost in the form of heat and friction in the engine. The mechanical energy is usually made available on a rotating output shaft (the crankshaft), which is the output of the engine. The crankshaft is connected to a transmission/power-train to transmit the rotating mechanical energy to drive a vehicle. The spark ignition engines are Otto or gasoline engines and the compression ignition engines are diesel engines. In external combustion engines, the combustion process takes place outside the mechanical engine system. De Lorenzo provides for this filed a compact demonstrator that reproduces the performance of a D-Jetronic mono-point injection engine system. It is a simplified fuel system that allows to observe the pressure parameters, the change of the advance angle, the signal of the crank position, the system sensors and working subassemblies, the duration of the fuel injection impulse, as far as the temperature, the rotational speed, the load and many more related parameters. It is recommended for professional institutes, vocational schools and technical colleges.
