ELECTRIC VEHICLE

An Electric Vehicle, also called EV, uses one or more electric motors or traction motors for propulsion. An electric vehicle may be powered through a collector system by electricity from off-vehicle sources, or may be self-contained with a battery, solar panels or an electric generator to convert fuel to electricity. Just as there are a variety of technologies available in conventional vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles have different capabilities that can accommodate different drivers’ needs. A major feature of EVs is that drivers can plug them in to charge from an off-board electric power source. This distinguishes them from hybrid electric vehicles, which supplement an internal combustion engine with battery power but cannot be plugged in. There are two basic types of EVs: All-Electric Vehicles (AEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). AEVs run only on electricity and are powered by one or more electric motor. They receive electricity by plugging into the grid and store it in batteries. They consume no petroleum-based fuel and produce no tailpipe emissions. They include Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs). In addition to charging from the electrical grid, both types are charged in part by regenerative braking, which generates electricity from some of the energy normally lost when braking. De Lorenzo provides for this filed one simulator and a large number of demonstrators. The simulator includes four main sections and allows to study lightweight electric vehicles such as the electric bicycle, the electric scooter and the electric car. For all of them, the simulator can analyze the drive operation with different types of batteries and their recharging systems available in the market. It is supplied with a CAI software and fault simulator for troubleshooting and can be also managed in standalone without the help of a PC. Regarding the demonstrators, there are available different modules such as for the study of the lithium iron phosphate power battery pack in aluminum square case or cylindrical, for the simulation of the BEV energy management system, for the study of the energy electric drive transmission system, for the study of the BEV braking energy recovery system with simulation of the running status under different operating modes, for the study of the energy electric vacuum assisted by hydraulic brake components and for the study of energy control strategy of a fuel cell electric vehicle. Some of them is equipped with intelligent fault setting and appraisal system. They are recommended for professional institutes, vocational schools and technical colleges.
